Press Release: Mahmood Ali-Balogun’s 2nd Coming, Emerges AVRS Chairman

Prominent Nollywood Filmmaker, Mr. Mahmood Ali-Balogun has been elected as the chairman of Audio-Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS). Mahmood polled nine of the 15 directors’ votes against the incumbent chairman, Mr. Bond Emeruwa who has led the board since 2016.

The election which returned Mahmood Ali- Balogun as the chairman of AVRS took place at the AVRS Secretariat on the 15th of January, 2019. It was consequent upon the Company’s AGM/Board elections of September 16, 2018 that brought in new members to the AVRS Board.

The elected members include Sani Mu’azu (Galadima), Dr. Ahmad M. Sarari, Oloba Al-Maroof Afolayan, Mrs. Iyen Omoruyi (nee Agbonifo-Obaseki) and Elder Tunji Ojetola.


These members, along with others members such as Chief Peddie E. Okao, Mr. Bond Emeruwa, High Chief Olurotimi Aina-Kusoro, Mrs. Lilian U. Amah-Aluko, Barr. Norbert Ajaegbu, Mr. Anthony Anih, Mr. Okechukwu Ogunjiofor, Prince Jide Kosoko,  Sir. Emmanuel Isikaku and Mr. Mahmood Ali-Balogun (Chairman) completes the new board.


Audio-Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS) is a collective management organization for cinematograph works in Nigeria. AVRS is empowered under the extant Laws, to engage in the issuance of licenses on behalf of copyright owners in the film industry, for public and commercial use of films, collect royalties accruing to such licenses and distribute same to the copyright owners.
